We are excited to share that CAVU's Terry Barrett will be presenting at the 2025 Mary Kay O’Connor Safety & Risk Conference, hosted October 21–23 at the Westin Houston, Memorial City, Texas.
His presentation, “Beyond Compliance: Applying Military Principles to Strengthen Industrial Process Safety Culture”, during the Managing Process Safety Session, explores how lessons from military operations can strengthen process safety in high-risk industries.
While occupational safety often focuses on individual risks, process safety addresses the prevention of catastrophic events—fires, explosions, and environmental disasters—that can have far-reaching consequences. Terry will connect proven military principles of planning, leadership, and risk management to key components of the OSHA Process Safety Management Standard, including hazard analysis, operational procedures, training, and incident investigation.
Drawing on real-world case studies from both military and industrial contexts, Terry will highlight how fostering a proactive safety culture—rather than simply meeting compliance requirements—leads to stronger risk management and safer operations. The U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Program, recognized globally for its exceptional safety record, will serve as a powerful model for organizations seeking to achieve safety excellence.
