Mr. Torrence Mabry, a Master Chief of the United States Navy, a native of Youngstown, Ohio, enlisted into the United States Navy on 13 October 1993.  Attended basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Illinois.

Upon graduation, I reported to the USS Denver (LPD 9) in San Diego, CA, as a Deck Seaman and later became an Operations Specialist. I then reported for duty aboard the mighty warship USS Cole (DDG 67), home ported in Norfolk, VA. After an outstanding tour, I transferred to CINCWESTLANT in Norfolk, VA, a NATO command serving under CINCLANTFLT. Upon completion of this shore tour, I served aboard the USS Mitscher (DDG 57), homeported in Norfolk, VA, and was selected for “Chief” Petty Officer. I then transferred to COMRIVGRU ONE and commissioned the first staff and three RIVERINE SQUADRONS based out of Little Creek Amphibious Base, Norfolk, VA. From there, I transferred to COMPSRON ONE aboard the USNS John P. Bobo (T-AK 3008) as the Assistant Operations Officer. I then transferred to the USS Nashville (LPD 13), where I completed the first AFRICOM mission across 17 African countries as the Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. After decommissioning USS Nashville, I transferred to the USS Lake Champlain (CG 57), home ported in San Diego, CA. I then transferred to the Center for Surface Combat Systems (CSCS) Detachment San Diego, served as an instructor, earned my Master Training Specialist Qualification, and assumed the title of “Senior Chief” Petty Officer. I then commissioned the Navy’s first-ever ballistic missile system, U.S. Aegis Ashore Missile Defense System Romania, as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader. My follow-on orders were to ATG Western Pacific in Yokosuka, Japan, where I earned my Afloat Training Specialist qualification. I then transferred to the USS Nimitz (CVN 68) as Operations Department Leading Chief Petty Officer and assumed the title of “Master Chief.” My final tour in the Navy was at the Naval Education and Training Professional Development Center.
